Signs that factories are still humming along, although at a sluggish pace, helped support stocks on Wall Street Monday despite continued worries about Europe.
Stocks were modestly lower but off their weakest levels of the day as investors took an upbeat view of a private survey of the nation's manufacturing activity. The Dow Jones industrial average was down about 21 points just before midday.
Shares had opened sharply lower,?tagging along with overseas markets,?after Greece admitted that it will miss its deficit targets this year and next, despite its recent austerity measures.
The downbeat news from Greece has raised concerns over plans for another international bailout plan for the debt-ridden nation and raises the possibility of Greece defaulting on its bonds. Eurozone finance ministers will meet in Luxembourg later Monday to discuss plans to resolve the region?s sovereign debt crisis.
